Letter from the Acadians of Pennsylvania to the French Ambassador in London Your Excellency: We have received a copy of the letter that you sent to our brothers who are prisoners in England, from which we are informed that His Most Christian Majesty wishes to relieve us from our slavery which we have been held in since the beginning of the war with England. All our rights and goods which we previously enjoyed have been taken away. We are enclosing a complete list of names denoting those that wish to return to their motherland, it is addressed to His Majesty and is enclosed. We trust that your Excellency will intercede with the King and advise us of a convenient time when we will be able to embark for our transportation. Ever since the English dispersed us form our lands, we have desired to return to France or one of the French colonies where we again may enjoy all the liberties concerning our religion. We are always in the hope that the protection offered to us by His Most Christian Majesty and that of your Excellency will never cease. You can be assured that the good health of His Majesty, The Royal Family, and that of your Excellency and the prosperity of the nation will ever be remembered in our prayers. There is nothing more urgent that we desire from the goodness of our Sovereign than being delivered from our present predicament as soon as possible. Your Excellency, Your Most humbel and most Obedient Servants, Paul Doiron, Bruneau Trahan, Pierre Landry, For all Acadians who are in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia, June 20, 1763.
