Public Archives of Canada, Ottawa, film no. C-2752 contains microfilm copies of the original censuses of Acadia for the years 1671, 1686, 1693, 1695, 1698, 1700, 1701, 1703, 1707, 1714, 1732 is actually 1750/1751 [1732 is an error on the microfilm - it should be 1750/1751 according to Stephen A. White] and 1752. The census for Port-Toulouse has been listed at 1758 but that too was an error because of the misfiling of the document. Stephen White estimates this census to be an early one of Port-Toulouse dated 1716.

Some census records were published by Placide Gaudet in the publication Report Converning Canadian Archives for the year 1905, Vol. II, Appendix A and has appeared in a number of publications. The original census of 1671, 1686 and 1714 were published in the Acadians in Exile by Reverend Donald Hebert. An English translation of the 1686 census was published in The Acadian Families 1686 by Winston DeVille.

Charles C. Trahan transcribed and published the remainder of the Acadian Census Records in August of 1993. We are grateful to him for this great contribution.
